OSWEGO COUNTY, N.Y. — Individuals living in and around Oswego County can expect to hear sirens on Tuesday, Dec. 7 around 1 p.m. as Exelon Generation’s nuclear power facility will be testing its public notification system.
During the test, 40 sirens in a 10-mile radius of the Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station will sound for three to five minutes; additional tests may be conducted throughout the day.
The sirens are part of the test and no response from the public is necessary.
Exelon Generation says they test their siren system on a monthly and bi-annual basis to ensure public safety.
In an actual emergency, the sirens would alert the public to tune in to a local Emergency Alert System (EAS) radio or TV station for information.
